Ohio Homeland
Security - An overview of the current focus of the agency, projects
and new developments that are under way to combat potential
terrorism and response plans that are under way...

Earl Mack, Deputy
Director of Dept of Public Safety, Ohio Homeland Security
Earl D. Mack, Jr. was
appointed Deputy Director of the Office of Protection and Security
of the Division of Ohio Homeland Security on October 1, 2007. As
Deputy Director, Mr. Mack is responsible for coordinating the
overall effort to prevent, respond to, and recover from terrorist
acts. He serves as the Executive Director’s principal officer to
lead, integrate, and coordinate the implementation of efforts among
state departments and agencies, as well as local governments and the
private sector, in preparation against terrorist acts. In addition,
Deputy Director Mack oversees the State Building Security Office and
the Private Investigator/Security Guard Enforcement Unit.
Deputy Director Mack, a
26-year veteran of law enforcement, was formerly a police officer
with the University of Toledo before becoming a Liquor Enforcement
Agent with the Ohio Department of Public Safety, Ohio Investigative
Unit, formerly the Ohio Department of Liquor Control, in 1982. In
1986, Deputy Director Mack was promoted to Field Supervisor, and in
1989, he was promoted to Assistant Agent-In-Charge of the Toledo
Enforcement District Office. Deputy Director Mack was promoted to
Agent-In-Charge of the Cincinnati Enforcement District Office in
1995, before receiving a temporary appointment to Assistant Deputy
Director of Enforcement Operations in 1996. After his temporary
position of Assistant Deputy Director, Deputy Director Mack returned
to his position as Agent-In-Charge of the Toledo Enforcement
District Office.
Deputy Director Mack is a
graduate of the 21st Class of the
Ohio Peace Officer Training Program and an instructor for the Ohio
Peace Officers Training Council and Owens Community College Law
Enforcement Center. Deputy Director Mack is also a member of the
Executive Board of the Federal Bureau of Investigation’s Joint
Terrorism Task Force. In addition, he is a graduate of the
University of Toledo and the University of Louisville’s Southern
Police Institute. Deputy Director Mack also attended training at
the Federal Law Enforcement Training Center in Glynco, Georgia; the
United States Department of Justice Drug Enforcement
Administration’s Narcotics and Dangerous Drug Law Enforcement; and
the United States Department of the Treasury’s Alcohol, Tobacco and
Firearms Undercover Investigative Training Course.
Deputy Director Mack is a
Military veteran, serving in the United States Army as a Combat
Medic during the Viet Nam War in 1970 and 1971. Mr. Mack has
received numerous awards and commendations to include the Valor
Award for being injured in the line to duty.
